Signing up with Hulu is the final hurdle. You need an American credit card to be able to register your Hulu account. If you don’t have one, you can sign up for an American Paypal account instead. Follow these instructions.
- First of all, make sure your American VPN connection is active and working on your device. This is crucial for this progress to work.
- Go to Paypal and register a new account. You will first need to enter an email and password of your choosing.
- Next, you will be prompted to enter personal information. Enter in valid US information. This does not need to be the same as the address linked to your credit card, so I used an address that I created for free (with no credit card required) at myusaddress.ca, and pulled a US phone number from www.fakenumber.org.
- Then, you will have to add a credit card to your new American Paypal account. Enter in your credit card information as per usual. When it comes to the billing address, things get a bit tricky. I’ll break it down below:
- Street Address: Enter in the actual street address linked to your credit card.
- City, State, Zip Code: You must now use your postal code as your zip code. To convert a postal code to zip code, take the three numbers out of your postal code in the order they appear and add “01” to the end. For example, if your postal code is A2B 3C4, you would use 23401.
- For the City and State, you will now find where your new zip code is located. In a new tab, go to www.unitedstateszipcodes.org and enter in your new zip code. You will be able to locate both the city and state. For the example of 23401, the city and state is Keller and Virginia, respectively. Return to your Paypal tab and enter in the city and state for your zip code.
- Finally, submit the form, and you will now have an American PayPal account with a linked credit card. This will allow you to sign-up to Hulu and other American streaming services anywhere in the world.

Hello Per. I suggest purchasing a Hulu gift card from Amazon, eBay, or the likes instead. That should help you get around the Hulu subscription issues from abroad.
Has anybody got the PayPal part of this tutorial working? (May 2019) I have got everything else working but I can’t set up a payment method – all the sites that offer prepaid virtual cards are not accepting subscribers. Surely somebody can come up with a way to pay for Hulu outside the US?

First I just want to thank William for the original post. Excellent detail and it worked for me right up until the end when one needs to download the Hulu app. It looks like your getting a VPN block but what’s really happening is that Goggle is blocking the app download because you told Goggle you do not live in the US. This must be new, William would have caught this. The summary to work around is to add a new Goggle account but base it in the US. This is established in Google via Google Pay.
– Do all the below using your VPN US connection.
– Add new Google account, it will create a new Gmail account as well.
– Adding a new account will want a payment method and you can use the same set up as was done with Hulu. Your valid credit but with US City, State, and Zip Code.
Sign into Google Pay, ensure you’re using your new Goggle account. Under Settings check to see that Country/Region is United States. Now you should be able to download the Hulu App from Google Play.

I tried out the section ‘HOW TO CREATE A HULU ACCOUNT OUTSIDE USA?’ and got up to step 4 until paypal asked to confirm my fakephone number…..and then Hulu denied any future paypal use with the message ‘Sorry, we weren’t able to set up preapproved payments at this time. Please return to the merchant and choose another way to pay.’. So the phone number thing :/

I’m heading to Taiwan in a few weeks on work. But i see from testing every VPN solution on my iOS devices. They are blocked by Netflix, Hulu, etc. The services ALL detect i’m using a VPN and do not allow streaming, or oddly enough using VPN to my home router … they state I don’t have internet access!

VPN‘s should work for hulu, try using a different provider. The real problem is paying for hulu plus, the canadian trick doesn’t work anymore. Try statescard.com to get a US card or get a friend from the states to pay.

Hi there! I live in Canada and have recently cut the cord to my cable provider. I have successfully accessed a Hulu plus account(using us credit card info)from Canada on my IPad. I am trying to use HMA as my VPN however when I attempt to access Tv shows/movies from Hulu Plus I receive the message “Looks like we are having trouble completing this action right now. Please try again later.(16)”
The reply from Hulu was “. This error usually occurs as a result of using an anonymous proxy or VPN. If you are using something like this on your network, I recommend returning to more traditional network settings and you will be able to use your iOS device properly.”
