How to Watch RTE Player in UK outside Ireland
How to get the RTE Player in the UK or anywhere else outside Ireland? The Irish are known for traveling all over the globe. Many Irish people live in the UK, Australia, Canada, and the USA. If you’re an Irish expat currently working abroad, you’re probably aware that some Irish streaming sites are geoblocked overseas. This certainly applies to RTE Player. The popular streaming channel can only be accessed within Irish territories. Luckily, there is a workaround that allows you to bypass regional restrictions and watch RTE Player outside Ireland.

How to Watch RTE Player in UK outside Ireland?
Most streaming channels are geo-restricted. That means you can only watch live and on-demand content through these channels if you currently reside within a region where they are available. It doesn’t even matter if you have purchased a subscription to that channel or not. The same concept applies to RTE Player. As soon as you leave the Republic of Ireland, you will no longer be able to watch your favorite Irish programs online. Unless you can get an Irish IP address abroad that is. In order to change your IP address and get an Irish IP in the UK, for instance, you have to use a virtual private network, commonly known as VPN. The whole process is easier than you might think.
- Go to ExpressVPN and create your VPN account.
- Then, download and install the VPN application to your device.
- Launch the app and sign into it using the VPN account you have just created.
- From within the app, connect to an Irish VPN server.
- Finally, head over to the RTE Player website and stream your favorite Irish programs online.
Given that ExpressVPN offer a 30-day money-back guarantee, there is no risk involved in signing up with them. However, if you do wish to use a different VPN service, make sure they actually offer their users VPN servers in Ireland.

How to Get RTE Player in UK outside Ireland – Wrap Up
That’s basically all you need to know about how to watch RTE Player outside Ireland. Regardless of whether you currently live in the UK, USA, Canada, or Australia, all you need is VPN in order to stream your favorite Irish programs anywhere in the world.
The only way that works is to use a vpn in conjunction with the sky go app
Virtually all VPNs are blocked for RTE. Currently only one that I have tried that is still working. It’s a Greek VPN provider called ZoogVPN. Very affordable and great for streaming.
No joy using PureVPN with the RTEplayer either. Gutted!
Hello Micko. Have you tried giving ExpressVPN a go?
Any update on getting the Irish chanels therough VPN
agree with all posts bloody RTE has blocked VPN .
I use the dugs baws
Rte have blocked all anonymous vpns, even if based in ireland. Blanked block on vpns.
Hi there. May I ask which VPN you are using at the moment?
I’ve had similar experiences with Nordvpn as other posters – no luck!
I use HMA!Pro VPN. It worked through 2018, but RTE have figured it out in 2019. I get the streaming restriction notice as well
Wanted to watch yesterday’s show, as it was about my documentary Carl Davenport
Express and Shark defo do not work. I have given up at this stage!
From my experiments with VPN services and my Dublin VPS, I think it likely that RTE is blocking anything they consider a non-residential IP.
I´ve signed up to NordVPN and this does not work for RTE: RTE detects you are using a VPN and doesnt give a stream. This happens on all devices. Itv Hub and BBC work but RTE no.
I actually have a VPS located in Dublin. Attempts to watch RTE Player via a browser running on the VPS with a remote desktop app result in Anonymous Proxy Detected, even though I am not running a proxy, followed by “This programme cannot be streamed due to rights restrictions”, no matter what the programme is.
I’ve been told by Nord VPN chat support that they do not support RTE.
So that is 3 Express VPN, Surshark VPN and NORD VPN that can not stream RTE.
Is there anybody out there who genuinely receives RTE on a VPN?
ExpressVPN were not able to confirm when I talked to them on their Chatline that they stream RTE Player. They suggested I subscribe to test it and cancel using the 30 day guarantee. I did not take up their offer because I felt they should have been able to confirm if they were able to stream it
I can’t watch RTE AND I am using a NordVPN server in Dublin AND I am using FakeGPS and have put my GPS location in Dublin. I also cleared all cookies, cache, etc.
I would love some help, advice, input, etc on what I may be doing wrong or other such as to what to do.
Thanks!
Still the same,’due to rights restrictions’
Hi I just tried this from France and its blocked. This does not work for RTE player “this programme cannot be screened due to rights restrictions”
Hi can i use vpn in New Zealand. I want to watch something on RTE player
Hi there. Yeah, you can use VPN in New Zealand.
I get “this programme cannot be screened due to rights restrictions” using Express VPN on a PC. This has been my experience recently
I’ve been testing using NordVPN from the US. It works for watching UK channels via Tvplayer and tvcatchup. But, RTE player smells a rat, no matter which Irish NordVPN server I try…
Have RTE upped their security game? I was just trying to watch the rugby live from Australia, using a vpn to make it look like I’m in Ireland (PIA), but it won’t play. Either that or RTE player is broken! :)
Express VPN is fast but it does not work for the RTE Player. It uses the same server as Private VPN – Blacknet Internet Solutions.
I have been trying to use hola but won’t work is there a reason hola won’t work? Thanks for your help
David
Hello David. Hola is never reliable when it comes to bypassing geo-restrictions. Check these Hola alternatives instead.
