CBC (Hockey Night) is now able to block Express VPN within Canada using Toronto & Toronto 2. Didn’t bother trying with Montreal. I just left the site.

I use Cactus VPN to watch CBC in Texas. I also used it in Austria with no problem. Just set it to the Montreal server. It should work just as well in the UK. It only costs a few dollars per month.
One tip: Lower the streaming speed as much as you can without going to low because you will be buffering if you attempt HD. Luckily the CBC player allows you to change speeds of the stream. Took me a day to figure it out. I use 437 not 720 and after the change no more buffering.
I ditched the NordVPN and switched to Cactus VPN + SmartDNS and that has completely solved the problem. The CBC streams were actually blocked with a location message when using just VPN alone.
I am using NordVPN in the US and cannot access CBC shows such as Coronation St. I can access TSN sports videos that I couldn’t access previously. Using a UK server I can access Coronation St. on ITV’s website with no problem. Methinks CBC has outsmarted us . . .
I have a VPN from PrivateInternetAccess. I am connecting through a Canadian server and checking IPLeak.net shows I have a Canadian IP. But CBC still blocks me. Are they checking for DNS leakage, or is there some other issue you can comment on?

Wife just want’s to watch Murdoch Mysteries on CBC about 1 time per week on her computer. She has all the old programs, but not the newer current programming. Other than that she browses Facebook and very little online purchasing, but does some research on her desktop computer. Windows 8.1 PRO version, with ESET Nod32 AV. We use a Frontier DSL Router to connect to the internet, at a speed of usually 2.25-2.60 Mbps. I can configure the routes as well.
Also wanted to report that I am not behind a transparent proxy with my ISP.

Yes, but in order to do that you have to turn off VPN again.
