How to Watch CBS All Access outside USA using VPN or DNS Proxy
Note: If you have used VPN or Smart DNS in the past, you might not need to read the whole article. Simply sign up at ExpressVPN and select an American VPN server. You can alternatively choose Unlocator for a stable Smart DNS service “7 day free trial“. This will allow you to unlock CBS All Access and all other US-only SVOD (subscription video-on-demand) services.

Unlock CBS All Access outside USA via VPN.
CBS, like Netflix and Hulu, restrict their services to certain regions. One more method to change your region is VPN. VPN re-routes your whole traffic through servers located in USA or any other country you choose. Once this is accomplished, you’ll appear to be located in the USA. VPN’s benefits are different from those of Smart DNS.
- VPN encrypts your data to protect you from all sorts of online threats.
- VPN changes and hides your IP address. By doing so, your ISP, websites, and even government agencies won’t be able to eavesdrop on you.
- VPN is relatively easy to set up on devices such as PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Android. This is due to the existence of VPN clients on such platforms. If you want to share a VPN connection on devices with no VPN client, you have to set up VPN on a VPN-compatible router instead.
- While Smart DNS can’t find a way around DNS Hijacking or Transparent Proxies, VPN continues to work on your streaming devices even in the presence of such restrictions.
There are virtually hundreds of VPN providers online. When comparing different VPN providers, make sure the one you choose offers unlimited bandwidth and high-speed streaming. I am currently using ExpressVPN which offers both in addition to VPN for iPhone, iPad, Mac, PC, and Android.

Unblock CBS All Access outside USA using Smart DNS
Smart DNS enables you to bypass all sorts of geographic restrictions. This makes it possible to visit any blocked site and access streaming services from around the world. A Smart DNS server intercepts the necessary data that verifies your location when you access geoblocked sites. Therefore, CBS All Access will be tricked into thinking you’re accessing it from inside USA. Smart DNS capabilities can be summed up as followed.
- Smart DNS does not modify your local IP address. This means your access to Now TV in UK or CBC in Canada will not be revoked.
- No data encryption means that Smart DNS does not influence or slow down your Internet speed.
- Accessing multinational streaming services simultaneously is possible with Smart DNS. You could stream CBS All Access, USA Netflix, BBC Iplayer and CBC Canada at the same time without having to reconfigure your Smart DNS settings.
- Smart DNS works on all platforms. iPhone, iPad, Android, Xbox, Playstation, Roku, Apple TV, Windows PC, Smart TVs and Mac are all compatible with Smart DNS.
- Smart DNS is severely hindered by ISP policies such as DNS hijacking or Transparent Proxies.
- No additional software is needed for setting up your device with Smart DNS.
CBS All Access is a new on-demand service. Make sure that the Smart DNS service you want to subscribe to has CBS in its list of unblocked channels. The Smart DNS service I use, Unlocator, does provide DNS codes for CBS in addition to around 120 other geoblocked streaming services from around the world. Try their free 7-day trial and check their videos and tutorial on how to set up various streaming devices with Smart DNS.

Watch CBS All Access outside USA
That’s mostly all you need to know about unblocking CBS All Access anywhere outside USA. Using Smart DNS and VPN gives you the freedom to access geoblocked content whenever and wherever you want. If you face any issues while setting up your device with either Smart DNS or VPN, please leave a comment. I’ll do my best to help you out.
I am living on a boat. Now in the Bahamas. Tried to access cbs live for NFL.
Only received error messages. Tried with NordVPN, same issue.
Hi Ted. What device are you using?
I tried Express VPN on my iPhone on a recent trip to Mexico, hoping to watch CBS All Access. It worked for about 40 minutes, and then my screen went dark, and that was it.
VPN won’t work on mobile devices (iPad, iPhone) for live TV from geo-blocked networks like CBS, NBC, ABC, etc because they always ask you to turn location services on.
Will this work in Mexico?
Hello Jay. Yes it should still work in Mexico.
I want to watch CBS from Canada.
I was able to setup ExpressVPN, and the CBS website really thinks I am in the US.
But, I can’t create a US account at cbs.com, because it won’t let me pay with a Canadian credit card, neither with my Paypal account.
Any solutions to that?
I have been wondering how can you pay for the the American subscriptions. The card would say what country you’re from. Would you pay for it in your own country but get redirected to the American version because of the VPN.
Im thinking about getting cbs all access to watch nfl games while i travel but will run into regional problem with broadcasting my home team. will a vpn help with this. I will be traveling inside the usa
Hello Phil. Yes, a VPN can help you with that. See this guide for more info on how to bypass blackout restrictions in the USA.
Hello.. I’m in france using iPhone trying to watch Star Trek shorts on my cbs all access .. I tried doing what unlocator said to do but cons can still see I’m out of country and won’t play.. what am I doing wrong? Help!
Hi Claudia. Have you tried contacting Unlocator support about the issue?
Thank you so much for your reply. No, I havent because honestly I’m afraid to have to purchase one only to not have it also not work. Plus I travel to/spend weeks at a time in the US so not sure if worth the investment. I was (and am still) using just hola which has always worked fine (and still does for other sites) but now doesn’t seem to allow me cbs access unless its possibly a cbs website change (?) I only use this when outside of the US and because I was away for the last couple of months I haven’t even tried to use it until now. Because I can effectively run hola for other sites I’m not sure if it’s cbs or hola. I’m running it through chrome on a MacBook Pro.
hi,
I was wondering if you might have some advice/help/suggestions for me. I was previously running cbs.com (and other sites) without issue while residing outside of the US, using my vpn, but now for whatever reason, still while running my vpn, and on cbs.com only, I am getting the message that the video is unavailable or expired to try to reload again, which still doesnt work when I try to reload. I used to be able to view this content without any problem (with my vpn) but now cant seem to figure out why, and its just cbs, the main site I usually use, that wont work for me, I can presently still run content on other US websites without issue. Has anything changed in the last couple of months on cbs? Thanks for any help/info provided
Hello Cindi. It could be that CBS have blacklisted the IP address of the US VPN server you are connected to. Have you tried connecting to a different American VPN server?
I use Expressvpn and I have an All-Access commercial free account, I live outside the US. I use to be able to stream the Live stream but now it appears no matter the Expressvpn server I use on my router (RT-AC87U WRT-Merlin) I cannot get the Live Stream. I get the message that its not available in my area. Any hints on how I can overcome this issue?
I use smart DNS with a server supposedly located in California. I am able to access most sites like HBO, SHOWTIME AND FOX SPORTS, BUT when I signed up for CBS all access. I was blocked because it could not “pinpoint my location” (this was for NFL games)
what can I do?
hi,
ive lost most of the current season of Young& the restless from my hard drive, how can I watch the whole current season as Im in Australia and not much luck…
Hi, I am based in the UK and I love a few series from the USA of which the current series is being aired now. I have an expressvpn account and it allows me acces to CBS but it won’t allow me to set up all access or watch full episodes – I can only watch clips. Can you advise what I’m doing wrong? Thanks
Hi Emma. Have you tried connecting to different US VPN servers?
Hi, I have tried all of them and when I click on a link for the full episode it takes me to a smart link page which tells me it will open in another application. I click on the open button and it takes me to the App Store showing the CBS app but when I click on this I get a message saying ‘your account is not valid for the U.S store you have to switch to the uk store’ but when I do there is no app for CBS. Please help. Thank you
You need to create an American Apple ID in order to download US apps. Follow these steps: https://thevpn.guru/change-itunes-app-store-region-usa-iphone-ipad-download-apps-no-credit-card
Can’t do it on an ipad. They don’t use up address to determine your location.
Judging by the comments on here you can’t get access to CBS without a US credit card, is that correct?
I just want a VPN so i can watch my favourite soaps, but i’m in Australia, and want to know firsthand if I can get access.
If you just want to watch soaps on US tv, go to the ustvnow.com site.
I have CBS with all account access. But how its works?
Hi Adele. On what device do you intend to watch CBS All Access outside USA?
We live in the Philadelphia region and get CBS 3, but my husband is a NY JETS fan, which plays on NY CBS 2. Is there any way (using a firestick or other device if necessary) to get or stream Jets games in our home?
I have hotspot shield VPN, where do I go to get all access CBS? Do I just Google it?
I am in Mexico, would like to have use of CBS-all access. I do have access to NETFLIX. Does that mean I can then access others, like CBS ?
And if not that way, what and how to do a ser up with what do you recommend ?
Hello Karol. You can unblock CBS All Access in Mexico and other US-only channels as long as you have an account to these channels and are using either Smart DNS or VPN to unblock them.
I am currently overseas…Last week I was able to watch shows on cbs, nbc, etc. and now when I try to it says the video is not available in my region. Can you tell me why that it is?
Hi Amanda. Are you using VPN or Smart DNS when trying to watch these American channels overseas?
I followed instructions on unlocker through my router.. no good CBS all access says failed..contact support. Of course there is no contact info. So tried just on my phone and dns was already applied through router.. still no luck with CBS all access sign up. Please help.
Hi, so based on the comments I have read it seems to me that you need to have a US credit card in order to access CBS All Access as well as bypassing the proxy server. So I am unable to watch it with my Canadian credit card?
Is CBS ALL ACCESS available on Android tv boxes
I live within the US and have a CBS ALL ACCESS account. How can I receive live streaming on my Roku 2500? Live access keeps informing me that live streaming is not available “yet” in my area. I am given live streaming from Dallas (on and off) on two windows 7 computers. My actual location is Arkansas. I note the IP address on the Roku is significantly different than my Network/Router IP.
I live in Canada,, and I want to sign up for a CBS All Access account. Even if I have a, Express VPN account, a US billing address and an American credit card it asks for my email address, does it matter that my email is a Canadian email address, Also I previously had a CBS account when we were able to access years ago , so they would have my email address on file, would that matter.
Hi Debbie. The origin of your email address should not matter given that you have a valid US billing address and credit card.
Im in the Uk trying to CBS all access I have a vp but when I register it says error Im using a US prepaid debit card
I am going to Canada for 3 months this summer and I own a Roku, is it possible, at this time, for me to be able to watch CBSN… This, of course is very important to me and if it is available, at what cost?
Hi John. Unlocator does support unblocking CBSN on Roku outside USA. Pricing varies depending on the length of your subscription. You can sign up for a free Unlocator trial to try out their service.
But CBS Access Live TV streaming is only available in certain US regions, so it most likely won’t work apart from the VoD (tried both Unblock-US and Unblocker)… VPN service it is!
It won’t take an Aussie credit card. How do I get around that?
You can try various online services that give you virtual USA card.
I have CBS all access with my Roku 3 account which does accept Aussie credit cards so that Roku bills you rather than CBS. Hope it works for you.
But you need the device, right?
