How to unblock Sling TV outside the US – The Smart DNS Method
Sling TV detects your location and blocks you from streaming its services outside US. In order to bypass these geographic restrictions, you need to hide your true location. This is basically what Smart DNS does. After you sign up with a Smart DNS proxy service like Unlocator, you have to change DNS server settings on your streaming device. The values you need to input will be provided by the Smart DNS proxy service you choose.
- Smart DNS does not change your IP address. This is particularly useful if you visit local websites that are geoblocked outside the territory you live in.
- Your Internet speed practically stays the same since Smart DNS only has to redirect your connection partially.
- You can unblock streaming services from different regions without having to change your Smart DNS setup. Watch UK’s BBC iPlayer, US Sling TV, and Canadian Netflix at once.

VPN is an alternate solution to unblock all sorts of restricted streaming websites. VPN directs all your traffic through a VPN server located in a country of your choice, the US in this instance. By doing this, your streaming device will obtain an American IP address. Thus, Sling TV will treat it as it is located in USA.

Hello Sarfraz. Yes, you should be able to do that. Keep in mind that VPN and Smart DNS don’t tend to work well together though. Therefore, it’s better to keep the VPN connection disconnected whenever you wish to use Smart DNS instead.

Hi Sarfraz. I’m not entirely sure that you can actually use DNS in order to unblock the international Sling TV version.

Hi there. I get an error when using Sling TV via VyprVPN on my mobile (iPhone 7 plus) lately. When I use Sling on my laptop it works fine, but I keep getting the error message ‘Title is not available in this region. Please try watching something else or try again later (11-1)’. Hi, I have a fire stick and stream sling tv in the Detroit area. Sling tv let’s me watch fox sports network Detroit so I’m able to watch Detroit Tigers baseball. I am military stationed in Okinawa Japan, and would like to get slingtv to work out here! I have tried unblocked and some other, but can seem to get it to work. And when I did, it was only temporary. Any suggestions? Sucks being out here with only nextflix to watch. I do have amazon firebox with kodi- but craving live tv.

I use USTVNOW in colombia and is not dependable on major events because they allow free trials and signal gets bad , weekends and weather in Pennsylvania also they just suck in general for military my a**

hi, great post. I am in Canada. I would lime to run SlingTV and Netflix on my AppleTv4. Currently using unblock-us. When I turn my Unblock-us dns (on router or AppleTV), Netflix gives me the error message (even if I set my location as Canada) and SlingTV works.

Hi Rafael. With Unlocator, for instance, there is an option to turn off Unlocator for Netflix and keep it working for all other geoblocked channels such as Sling TV. I am not sure if Unblock-US offers the same feature. You might want to contact their support team.

Hi Phil. It depends on what’s sports you are interested in. I’d recommend Star Sports since it is free and can be unblocked via both VPN and Smart DNS. If you’re more into American sports, I’d say WatchESPN, NBC Sports, and Fox Sports Go are all pretty impressive. Again, you can unblock all of these using VPN or Smart DNS. You’d still need a valid American cable subscription to watch them though.

Hi Isso, I called my bank and added secondary address I got from mymallbox.com but my credit still isn’t getting accepted. I’m with BMO and using ExpressVPN as my bypass.
I use smart dns and us Netflix works great , but I can’t even create an account at sling tv as it won’t even let me go to create an account page . Also I live 45 minutes from US border ( in Canada) any work around a for the payments if I go to the US for a day . I was just going to get sling tv on an iPhone or iPad app and then use AirPlay on my Apple TV . Is s roku 3 much better

I had asked this question on the wrong forum before: I have a house in Costa Rica and I just got an Amazon Fire Stick. I’m not in CR until next week so I’m trying to prepare myself to bring down what I might need. My Sling TV works with no problem in my house in CR on my iPad. It’s not in anyway blocked. I am now reading that this might not be the case with the Amazon Fire Stick. I have an ASUS RT-N66U Router and don’t know if I can use VPN or DNS with it. What do you suggest I need to do to make this set-up work?

Hi Linda. As far as I am aware, the ASUS RT-N66U Router has an option to setup VPN on it, so you could go down that road. Alternatively, You can also use Smart DNS. You can setup Smart DNS on your router or directly on the Fire TV itself.

I’m in Panama and have UnBlock-US and Witopia for Netflix and easy access to US department stores. In the past, have not had success trying to log into ESPN or Xfinity using my child’s account (with her permission of course!). This year, I’m trying to get a jump on March Madness — actually, would like to watch the Tar Heels right now and definitely the ACC tournament as well but will settle for March Madness if necessary. Any suggestion of how I can get set up for MM well in advance so I’m not tearing my hair out on the first day of the tournament? I’m willing to change my services.

How can I download the Iphone App for Sling TV? It forwards me the USA store, and says I don’t have an account there.
You can change your iTunes store on your Iphone to US in the settings.
You mention the technical aspect of unblocking SlingTV but you do not mention the payment part. VuDu, for example, requires a credit card with a US billing address. Is this a requirement of SlingTV? If so, how did you fulfil that requirement? Do you have a US billing address because you have a US residence? Can someone use a Mail Forwarding service to fulfil this requirement(hurdle)?
Actually you should use an American state such as CA and Zip code 90210 for your address. Then use your genuine billing address for the credit card info. That should allow you to stream Sling TV without needing an American credit card.

I have been researching this for a while and it is tricky. Gift Cards are a way of getting around this issue. When you purchase a Gift Card at GiftCardMall.com you can log into your Gift Card account and simply enter any old US address. Just make sure it is a valid address. At that point, you can use it for Sling TV, Vudu, Amazon Instant Video, etc….
The problem is purchasing Gift Cards. The website requires that you pay with a US Credit Card. So it looks like your back to square one but there is definitely going to be a business to pursue in selling US Gift Cards in Canada. I am actively pursuing this and will at some point offer it as an online service along with true VPN router and Roku Box setup for the Canadian general public.
Another way to get around this that anyone can do is to use a Mail Forwarding service for a month and then use that address to set up a US TD, CIBC or RBC credit card account. This will cost $35 to $40 per year. Use mailboxforwarding.com as your Mail Forwarding service. If you live near Buffalo, New York in the US, try using CBI-USA at cbiusa.com instead. It costs $6 per package or mail item. They hold onto the items without charging storage fees. I use them all the time to buy stuff in the US.

I see you found a solution and by your saying, if you ever used any US freight forwarding service which provides an valid US address, your saying you can use that address to create an virtual debit card at those mentioned above banks ?

What to do is have your Canadian bank add a US address to your credit card. I’ve done this in order to shop in the US and the UK. If you use a border parcel/mail pick-up service (free to register with one) you can give that address to your bank.

Also, any thoughts on streaming recorder software to utilize to capture a game on Sling TV(ESPN say) so you can watch it at a reasonable time when you are traveling?
